_Whether saturating the fiber with
pigment, inserting the multitude of strands into the regulating mechanism of
the loom, or pressing into the dense surface of interlocking lines; the process
of weaving provides a guiding structure to the mobile components as well as a
material analogy to story telling. Rather than tell a literal narrative, the
components of the installation function allegorically, their meanings gliding
up and down the continuums of subjection/dominance, resistance/ acquiescence,
exclusion/ belonging. The processes of building up and breaking down materials
mimic patterns of accumulation and erosion found both in terrestrial and
interpersonal contexts. The sculptural infrastructure provides the scaffolding
on which the elements push and pull each other often producing an observable
stress (tension, abrasion, etc.). The symbolic resonance emerges not only from
the juxtaposition of elements but of the action/ reaction that is taking place.
Whether plucking, dissolving, or crocking off, the power dynamic is intended to
elicit an emotional association (coercion, stimulation, exclusion, acceptance,
transformation).
